Middelburg Care Village | A Vision Unlocked Through EOS®

When Empowering Change first came alongside Middelburg Care Village in South Africa, the heart of the organization was clear: provide a safe, loving home for children who had faced unimaginable hardship. But while the passion was strong, the path to real transformation was murky.

Children were aging out of the system at 18, still caught in the cycle of poverty—with little education, few job skills, and no real hope for self-sufficiency.

“We knew we were changing lives, but we weren’t changing futures. That had to change.”

A Bold Vision, A Clear Path

In 2022, that shift began. Empowering Change introduced Middelburg’s leadership team to the Entrepreneurial Operating System® (EOS®), a framework used by thousands of businesses worldwide to bring clarity, accountability, and focus to their operations.

What happened next wasn’t just an operational shift—it was the beginning of a transformation.

At their first EOS Focus Day, the Care Village team cast a bold 10-Year Target:

Every child leaving Middelburg Care Village will be equipped with the skills, ability, and motivation to become self-sustaining, productive adults—capable of giving back to their community and breaking the generational cycle of poverty.

With clarity came traction. Over the following year, the team implemented EOS tools like the Accountability Chart, Rocks, and Meeting Pulse, helping them:

• Align their staff

• Clarify roles and responsibilities

• Stay laser-focused on what truly matters

A shared vision emerged. Weekly meetings became focused and productive. Communication between departments improved. The leadership team shifted from reactive to proactive.

Thinking Bigger: The Breakthrough Moment

In August 2023, just one year into their EOS journey, the team held their first Annual Planning Session. That’s when something big happened.

They realized that in order to reach their vision, they needed to think bigger. Much bigger.

“We weren’t just running a children’s home anymore—we were building a future.”

True transformation would require:

• Financial independence from government subsidies

• New programs in vocational and life skills training

• A sustainable structure that could scale beyond what they had ever imagined

This moment—this shift in thinking—was the turning point. EOS didn’t just give Middelburg Care Village better tools.

It gave them the confidence to dream bigger, the framework to plan boldly, and the structure to execute with purpose.

The Journey Continues

Today, Middelburg Care Village is walking out its EOS journey. They’re not done—not even close. But they are:

• Focused

• Aligned

• Moving forward with vision and purpose
